Limited Edition HSV GTS-R to be called W1. Only 250 units

Holden Special Vehicles, HSV, will reportedly farewell the Commodore by stuffing a colossal 476kW 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from the previous-generation Corvette ZR1.

The limited-edition model, tipped to be called the GTS-R W1, will arrive in Q2 of 2017, just a few months before Holden mothballs its Elizabeth production plant in South Australia.

While the car’s final output could be higher or lower than the Corvette’s after homologation, it should nevertheless ensure the GTS-R W1 takes the title of the fastest Australian-built car ever, capable of blasting from 0-100km/h in as little as 4 seconds. It is believed all 250 of the limited-edition model would feature a Tremec six-speed manual transmission.

The W1 would also gain a set of bespoke adaptive dampers from Supashock, an Australian company, along with upgraded brakes and a more aggressive styling.

With a price tag of over A$170,000, the HSV GTS-R W1 is set to be the most expensive model ever produced in Australia as well.

According to Motoring, HSV will also be building a ‘tamer’ GTS-R powered by a tweaked version of the LSA V8 from the current GTS. While the exact output is unclear at this stage, it should top the GTS’ 430kW/730Nm and priced between the GTS-R W1 and GTS.

It will borrow the W1’s bigger brakes but misses out on its Supashock setup, instead featuring HSV’s normal Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
