Aston Martin mark 50 years since Concorde with DBS Superleggera Concorde

Aston Martin has introduced its DBS Superleggera Concorde special edition built to mark 50 years since the first Concorde supersonic jet.

Created in collaboration with British Airways, along with Aston Martin’s bespoke Q division, the DBS Superleggera Concorde is limited to just ten units and joins the Vanquish S Red Arrows Edition, Vantage Blades Edition and the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 in the brand’s aviation-inspired celebration models.

The car’s introduction also coincides precisely with the date when the last Concorde flight touched down in the UK.

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin Lagonda, said of the new car: “It’s only fitting that our great British sports car brand marks the achievement of the incredibly dedicated, talented and ambitious teams of British and French scientists, engineers, designers and aircraft workers who made Concorde, and supersonic air travel, a reality in our skies 50 years ago.

“Using the DBS Superleggera as our starting point, and with the support of the talented personalisation experts in the Q by Aston Martin service to draw on, we have been able to subtly and sympathetically enhance and highlight some of the car’s most notable features while preserving the elegance, style and sheer brutish road presence for which the Aston Martin DBS is rightly known.”

The super exclusive model features a number of exterior and interior modifications to set it apart from the DBS Superleggera on which it is based.

Bespoke exterior parts include side strakes milled from solid aluminium, a painted livery comprising British Airways colours on the roof strake, aero blade and rear diffuser, black tinted carbon fibre roof with Concorde silhouette graphic and the famous British Airways ‘Speedmarque’ logo in chrome on the front wings

There is also a unique Q by Aston Martin wing badge with black enamel infill, unique and authentic jet black painted Civil Aviation Authority aircraft identifier numbers and bespoke inspection plagues signed by Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer and British Airways Chairman Alex Cruz.

Inside, the limited edition model features Concorde logo on the front seats, a Mach Meter graphic embroidered on the driver’s side sun visor, unique Alcantara headliner with a ‘sonic boom’ graphic, floor mats in Terence Conran design pattern, seatbelt buckle badges milled from solid aluminium and bespoke sill plagues.

There are even paddle shifters made from the Concorde’s titanium compressor blades.

Underneath the bonnet is the same 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine pumping out 533kW and 900Nm of torque, enabling the DBS Superleggera Concorde to blast from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 340km/h.

Aston Martin will also donate parts of the proceeds from the sale of each car to the Air League Trust, a not-for-profit organization that teaches under-privileged children how to fly and offers support for them to work in engineering.
