Ginetta reveals new 450kW supercar ahead of Geneva launch

Ginetta Cars has revealed its upcoming all-new supercar ahead of an official debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

When it enters production toward the end of 2019, the as-yet unnamed supercar will mark the first time the Leeds-based company has produced a road-going model since 2015 when it pulled the G60 from sale due to falling sales figures.

Speaking with Autocar, Ginetta owner and former Le Mans winner Lawrence Tomlinson divulged on the initial specifications for the 322km/h monster.

Powered by a dry-sump 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 designed and manufactured in house, it’s claimed to produce around 450kW – that’s 600bhp in old money – and 705Nm. To keep the weight of the engine down and to increase its strength, it’s milled from a single block of aluminium.

Channeling the power to the rear wheels is a Ginetta-designed six-speed sequential transmission with a strong multi-plate clutch, which sends the power to the diff via a short carbon-fibre driveshaft.

Thanks to weight saving measures such as the aforementioned, along with its fully carbon-fibre tub and bodywork, it’ll tip the scales at just 1,150kg – undercutting it’s mid-engined rivals from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren by between 150-350kg.

Furthermore, it has near-perfect 49/51 weight distribution due to the front-mid-mounted V8 being positioned very nearly in the centre of the car – it’s pushed so far back, the drive pulleys are vertically aligned with the windscreen wipers.

Under the skin, it sports pushrod-operated double-wishbone suspension on all four corners, with it riding on a staggered set of centre-locking alloy wheels – 19-inch front, 20-inch rear – clad in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, measuring 275/35 up front, and 305/30 at the rear. Hidden behind those staggered rims is a set of Alcon carbon brakes.

This latest Ginetta creation measures in larger than any road-car the company has built yet at 4,640mm in length, while it’s around 100mm wider and 200mm longer in its wheelbase than any of its predecessors, too.

Despite the lightweight, big-performance nature of the Ginetta, it’s far from a crude track car, with standard equipment including automatic headlights, climate control, satellite navigation, a reversing camera, an electronic parking brake, and – unusually for a Ginetta – driver aids including traction control and ABS.

A very small portion of the population will also be thrilled to hear that it has a boot large enough to carry two sets of golf clubs.

Currently, 20 cars are set to be produced this year, with 14 of those already sold. When the factory reaches full-scale production, however, the goal is to produce 30 to 50 cars each year.

The official price is yet to be announced, although it’s hinted at as being under £400,000 in the UK, which is around $722,000 Australian.

Full details regarding its performance figures and official pricing, along with its ever-important name, are set to be revealed at its debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, which commences on March 7.
