Update: It’s official, the race-bred BMW M2 CS packs 331kW and 550Nm for a blistering 0-100km/h sprint of 4.0 seconds (DCT). The rest of this post have been updated with official information.
The 2020 BMW M2 CS has made an early appearance online thanks to our friends at Jalopnik. Shown fully undisguised in all its beef-up, carbon-fibre glory, the ultimate M2 is a final hurrah for the current model.
According to the publication, just 2200 M2 CS will be built, with global allocations and pricing to be revealed.
While nothing is official, Jalopnik claims the CS will feature an uprated version of BMW’s S55 twin-turbo straight-six, churning out an M4-rivalling 331kW and 550Nm of torque.
Zero to 60mph (97km/h) is dispatched in 4.0 seconds when equipped with the six-speed manual, and 3.8 seconds when matched with the seven-speed DCT.
Along with the power upgrades, the CS also gets a new exhaust system with electronically controlled valves for a meaner sound track. Chassis enhancement includes standard adaptive M suspension – previously reserved for the M4 models.
Elsewhere, the roof is now carbon fibre to reduce the centre of gravity as well as weight. Carbon fibre can also be found in the engine bay, rear diffuser, spoiler, front splitter and door mirrors.
The ultimate M2 can also be distinguished from ‘regular’ M2’s via its beefier body kit which includes a bonnet scoop, and 19-inch Y-spoke forged wheels in High-gloss Black or, as an option, a matte gold finish.
The new wheels not only look great but weigh just 9 kilograms at the front and 10 kilograms at the rear. They are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres honed specially for the M2 CS measuring 245/35 ZR 19 up front, and 265/35 ZR 19 at the back.
Owners looking to use their BMW M2 CS predominantly in everyday driving can also specify Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres as a no-cost option. These generate additional grip on wet road surfaces.
The standard M Sport brakes include larger brake discs than the M compound brakes of the BMW M2 Competition (front axle: 400 mm diameter, rear axle: 380 mm diameter) and larger calipers (front axle: six-piston fixed callipers, rear axle: four-piston fixed calipers).
Inside, lightweight Alcantara is used on the M Sport steering wheel, carbon fibre centre console, dash and the sports front seats.
The BMW M2 CS will launch in Australia mid-2020 with pricing and specifications announced closer to launch.
