Next-generation Holden Commodore Sportwagon unveiled

General Motors has taken the wraps off the new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, which when arrives in Australia, will be the all-new Holden Commodore Sportwagon.

Following closely on the heels of the reveal of the next-generation Commodore, the Sportwagon is said to offer space and sophistication in equal measures. Accompanying the 1640 litres of boot space and optional 40/20/40 foldable rear seats is a suite of high-tech features including IntelliLux LED matrix headlights, comprehensive driver assistance systems, next-generation head-up display and motion operated tailgate. The Commodore Sportwagon will also come packing Holden’s first nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Drivetrain line-up mirrors the Commodore sedan’s with turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel options, alongside the flagship twin-turbo V6 with 230kW and 370Nm, paired with an all-wheel drive system and 9-speed automatic transmission.

Holden claims the new Sportwagon comes with significant mass reductions than the current Commodore – depending on powertrain and trim, driven by the use of lightweight materials and efficient packaging.

The upcoming Holden Sportwagon is set for its world premiere in Opel guise at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7, and will go on sale in Australia in 2018.
