2022 Subaru BRZ STI with a hint of STI 22B

The new second generation Subaru BRZ launched with much fanfare late last year. With sharpened looks, more powerful engine and improved dynamics, the new 2022 Subaru BRZ is set to continue its forebear’s popularity and success. Not just that, it’s sure to also continue to be the darling of the tuning world.

While it’s still early days before we start to see the rollout of engine modifications, we can expect bodykit and aero parts to hit the aftermarket scene anytime now. And if you’re desperate, automotive renderer Khyzyl Saleem is showing us just how much potential there is in the new BRZ.

Realistically rendered with a touch of the legendary Subaru Impreza WRX STI 22B, this BRZ STI is one mean looking machine complete with a wide body kit and towering rear spoiler. The front gets a new bumper with integrated splitter, while the bonnet gains a bonnet scoop that is obligatory of a STI-badged Subaru. Elsewhere, the extended wheel fenders wrap gold 20-inch BBS alloy wheels, while a diffuser hangs off the widened rear bumper.

On the inside, a pair of bucket seats with racing harness seat belts highlight the upgraded interior. They are complemented with a roll cage, making Khyzyl Saleem’s BRZ STI fully track ready.

Subaru has never sold the first-gen BRZ as a full-fat STI model, with the closest being the tweaked BRZ tS, which is a more track-focused variant without the full STI treatment.

The new Subaru FA24 2.4-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine that powers the new BRZ represents an increase of 400cc over the outgoing 2.0-litre flat four, with it producing an estimated 170kW of power and 249Nm of torque.

While only a rendering for now, a production BRZ STI with a turbocharged strapped onto the 2.4-litre flat-four engine is definitely a very tantalising proposition indeed!
