Land Rover has introduced a range of driving assistance technologies to the 2017 Range Rover, along with a new supercharged V6 engine and a new SVAutobiography Dynamic variant to the lineup.
The Advanced Tow Assist makes it debut on the Range Rover that promises to take the stress out of reversing a trailer.
Using the vehicle’s existing Surround Camera System, the clever technology enables drivers to guide a trailer into position by following the trajectory lines overlaid on an image from the rear-facing camera displayed on the central touchscreen. Advanced Tow Assist is able to automatically steer the vehicle to follow the path selected by the driver using the Terrain Response 2 rotary controller.
The SUV is also equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning and Low Traction Launch (assist with pulling away from a standstill on slippery surfaces), while the optional Drive Pack brings features such as a blind spot monitor, rear-cross traffic detection, traffic sign recognition and a new Intelligent Speed Limiter. A Driver Condition Monitor further protect against driver fatigue.
Those wanting even more tech can option the Drive Pro Pack, which brings adaptive cruise control with Queue Assist, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keep Assist.
Inside, the Range Rover has been upgraded with a 10-inch touchscreen display with “dual view” technology, which allows the driver and front passenger to see different displays, along with JLR’s InControl Touch Pro infotainment system.
An optional InControl Remote Premium allows customers to remotely control vehicle functions such as activating the climate control to cool or heat the car, set and deactivate the alarm, and even start the engine.
As for the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO)-tuned SVAutobiography Dynamic, it comes with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 borrowed from the Range Rover Sport SVR and SVAutobiography, with 405kW and 680Nm of torque. paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the luxury SUV sprints to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The model is available exclusively in standard wheelbase and comes fitted with specially configured suspension designed to optimise agility without compromising Range Rover’s trademark refinement and comfort.
It can be distinguished by its chrome quad pipes, red Brembo brake calipers and 21- or 22-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, it receives diamond-quilted leather seats with contrast stitching, bespoke trim and upholstery.
The 2017 Range Rover will go on sale from the first quarter of 2017, with prices starting from $183,300. The SVAutobiography Dynamic is priced from $316,000.
