The current-generation Peugeot 308 has been around for nearly seven years, with the last facelift back in 2017. Now, the French carmaker has given the model possibly its last update before a new generation arrives in a few years.
If you can’t tell the 2020 model from its predecessor, that’s because the external refresh are limited to two new alloy wheel designs and a fresh coat of paint called Vertigo Blue.
Higher-end variants also have access to a Black Pack that swaps out various chrome bits like the front grille, fog lamp surrounds, side window covers and roof rack to a gloss black finish. The option also brings 18-inch diamond-plated alloy wheels in Sapphire Black with a Black Mist varnish.
The headline news of the MY2020 Peugeot 308 however, is its fully digital, 10-inch i-Cockpit instrument cluster, first seen on the new 208 and 2008. It is complemented by a touch-sensitive infotainment system with a glossy finish that comes complete with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Powertrain options remains unchanged, too, with the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol offering 82kW and 205Nm in PureTech 110 guise, and 97kW and 230Nm in the PureTech 130.
On the diesel front, there are three BlueHDi 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engines to choose from, including the 75kW/250Nm BlueHDI 100 and 97kW/300Nm BlueHDI 130.
Meanwhile, the GTi, which sadly has been discontinued in Australia, soldiers on with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol producing 196kW and 340Nm that is good for a 6.0 seconds spring to 100km/h from a standstill.
Regardless of trim level, all 2020 models features dual-zone climate control, auto headlights, DAB digital radio, auto wipers and auto-dimming rear view mirror.
Safety wise, there’s adaptive cruise control, Park Assist, autonomous emergency braking, active lane departure warning, Driver Attention Alert, auto high-beam, speed sign recognition and blind spot monitoring.
