The updated 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has arrived on Australian shores, with the renewed line-up receiving fresh looks, added features and improved cabin space.
Mitsubishi’s latest design theme of ‘Daring Grace’ is applied to the new Eclipse Cross, with the front adopting an evolved ‘Dynamic Shield’ design concept, including new headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. The rear has also been restyled with a sleeker appearance, while road presence is boosted with new 18-inch alloy wheels that are now standard across the range.
The front and rear overhangs have been extended, resulting in an overall increase of 140mm in length. The redesign has increased luggage room to 405-litres, while improving aerodynamic and high speed stability.
On the inside, a new 8-inch screen is now mounted in a position closer to the driver for improved touchscreen operability and visibility. Mitsubishi has also teamed up with what3words to deploy the segment’s first built-in offline navigation which is integrated in the TomTom satellite navigation system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility comes standard on all models, while a full-colour Head-Up Display (HUD) is fitted to the range-topping Exceed model.
The Eclipse Cross Exceed also gets an updated sound system, tuned to deliver a ‘lush, fluid sound quality’. The system comprises a high-powered 510 watt tuned amp and eight speakers that are arranged to fit to the shape of the Eclipse Cross.
Under the bonnet, the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is carried over unchanged from before. It produces 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque from 2000 – 3500rpm. Power is sent to the wheels via a CVT automatic. As before, the Eclipse Cross is available in either front- or all-wheel drive, the latter drives through Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) torque vectoring all-wheel drive system.
The 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is priced from $30,290 before on-road costs and is available now.
