Lamborghini has lopped the roof off its flagship Aventador SVJ to create a limited edition Roadster model, which is to be limited to just 800 units globally.
Unveiled for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the SVJ Roadster retains the coupe’s underpinnings and the majority of its aerodynamic bodywork. That is, minus the roof, which has been replaced with removable carbon-fibre panels that can be stowed in the front storage area.
The same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 is situated behind the seats, which delivers a rampaging 566kW of power at 8,500rpm and 720Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. That power is channeled to all four wheels through a carry-over single-clutch automated manual transmission.
Gaining just 50kg over the coupe, tipping the scales at 1,575kg, the SVJ Roadster is capable of 0-100km/h in a blistering 2.9 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 8.8 seconds – increases of just 0.1 and 0.2 of a second respectively over the coupe.
Furthermore, its massive brakes – carbon ceramic discs measuring 400mm front and 380mm rear, with six-piston and four-piston calipers respectively – will bring it to a halt from 100km/h in just 31 metres. It’s top speed is pegged by Lamborghini as being “more than 350km/h.”
Producing 40 per cent more downforce than the Aventador SV Roadster, its suite of aerodynamic features and technology has warranted Lamborghini giving the package a name – Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0.
Active flaps in the front and rear wings that adjust in less than 500 milliseconds and allow the car to reduce drag to enable it to achieve its top speed, or to increase downforce over the rear wheels for increased cornering speeds. An active aero vectoring system directs air to either side of the rear wing to increase traction on the inner wheel through corners in order to reduce the steering angle required and to improve its stability.
There are also larger side intakes and front side fins than those sported on the Aventador S to increase its aerodynamic properties even further.
The digital instrument cluster will also allow the driver to see the exact status of the ALA system in real-time. Also on the technology front, Apple CarPlay will be made available as a no-cost option.
To ensure all 800 examples will be as unique as possible, Lamborghini claims that “around 250 colours” will be available, along with the full availability of Lamborghini’s Ad Personam interior personalisation program.
Initial deliveries of the SVJ Roadster will take place in Europe during Q3 2019, just in time for their summer. European pricing will start from €387,000, although any Australian buyers can expect the Roadster to cost near, if not over the $1 million mark.
