IntegrationNation : BizTalk, Workflow and HIS

Biztalk and HIS webcast  @09:49:48 PM
My blog's been quiet...

I meant to get this out there in advance of me doing this last Thursday, but I co-presented a webcast on BizTalk Server 2004 and extending it to reach other platforms through Host Integration Server 2004. Steve and I presented a similar session at TechEd in Orlando back in June - but this time all our demos worked! We had a lot of stuff to cover and didn't quite get to show everything we wanted. Many thanks to those of you who tuned in and for the great eval scores we got (4.5/5). Steve's from the HIS product group and we had a great time doing this (it's always more fun when everything works).

There are a couple of things I wanted to expand on that came up during our presentation. Steve pointed out that as part of HIS 2006 a DB2 adapter for BizTalk will be provided - this raises an important point. The code you saw Thursday is provided 'AS IS' as samples to augment the SDK. Samples are not officially supported by Microsoft for production use and as such are used at your own risk. The samples we demo'd should be viewed as a technology and feature showcase of HIS and the extensibility of BizTalk - not as bullet-proof production-ready code.

Having said that, if you are looking at DB2 integration with BizTalk in the 2006 time-frame then its definately worth your while to play with the samples and get some famiarity with them. They have been used as the basis for 2006 in both inspiration and implementation so you should find the transition easy when you get there. If you missed it, you can on-demand view the webcast here

The code and article we discussed during the webcast are still awaiting publication. I know I said back in June that it was imminent, but it really is now (honest). I'm trying to get an ETA and will post it here when I have an accurate date.
