The Toyota GR 86 is already an excellent package straight out of the factory. With power now coming from a larger 2.4-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine developing 174kW and 250Nm, the rear-wheel drive sports car brings improved performance over the previous generation model.

While the car’s handling has been sharpened as well through new suspension geometry and more rigid components, setting the car up for track still demands a good set of aftermarket adjustable coilover suspension.

KW Suspension has been in the game for a while and knows what it takes to make a good track set up. The KW Clubsport coilovers have just been rolled out for the GR 86 to extract its maximum potential on racetracks and on the street. Developed at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, the new coilovers allow separate adjustment of the rebound and compression.

With the ability to adjust the dampers separately in the rebound, low-speed, and high-speed compression, the KW Variant 4 coilover suspension kit can be adjusted with 16 clicks for comfort or handling bias. A stainless steel threaded strut allows a lowering range between 20 and 50mm on the front axles and 25 and 50mm at the rear axles.

Along with the new product release, KW has showcased a GR 86 that is lowered on the KW Variant 4 coilover suspension. With an aggressive stance, all it needs is a nice set of aftermarket wheels to go with that hunkered down looks.

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe brings an extra set of doors for added practicality, without looking any less sexy than its coupe sibling. The stretched 4 Series variant not only carries over much of the coupe’s front fascia and rear styling, but also retains the coupe’s swooping roof line for a low slung, elegant look.

But the ultimate sleek, hunkered down stance, nothing beats a set of lowered suspension. And that’s where suspension specialist H&R comes in. The H&R lowering springs drops the 4 Series Gran Coupe by up to 40mm at the front axle and up to 35mm at the rear.

The result is a sportier look without the unsightly gap between the wheel arch and tyre. The springs are designed to work with the factory fitted M Sport suspension and adaptive dampers. According to H&R, the lowering springs give a flatter and sharper handling around corners without compromising ride comfort.

For those keen to go a step further, the tuner also offers a set of wheel spacers to complement the lowering springs. The spacers push the wheels out by 6mm, making them perfectly flush against the fenders, giving the 4 Series Gran Coupe the best stance possible.

The sport springs for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe cost 327 euros while the wheel spacers will set you back a further 64 euros.

Better known for their wild body kits on the exotic Lamborghini Aventador and Huracan, Liberty Walk has now turned their attention to the latest Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series.

Created in conjunction with Sphere Light and available from 2022, the Liberty Walk and Sphere Light body kit brings a front bumper extension with extra LED lights which is said to improve aerodynamics, although we suspect I might hurt the Land Cruiser’s approach angle.

Sticking to the front, the Toyota script on the front grille has also been replaced with the tuner’s own name, while the bonnet has been replaced with a carbon-fibre look item.

The most eye catching feature of the body kit is without doubt the wheel arch extensions with integrated inlets which house a set of wheels that not only looks massive but are also significantly wider.

Around the back, Liberty Walk and Sphere Light have installed an extra spoiler below the rear windshield, along with aerodynamic extensions on the rear bumper and a rear diffuser sandwiched by dual exhaust pipes.

The price? ¥1,958,000 (A$24,787) in Japan, or $27,078 elsewhere in the world.

The Isuzu D-Max is one of the most capable utes in the segment, having proven itself in our recent review. Straight from the factory, it comes all geared up to tackle the bush, yet impresses in everyday comfort. But for those wanting more, it doesn’t stop here.

Four-wheel-drive tuner Arctic Trucks is taking the D-Max up a level with the D-Max AT35 package. The ute receives a reinforced chassis in the form of an adjustable Bilstein Performance Suspension, offering a level of customisability to suit a range of terrain and surfaces.

But the most prominent mod is no doubt the huge 35 inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 off-road tyres, wrapping matt black 17 x 10 inch double-spoke rims. The heavy duty all terrain tyres ensure unrivalled off-road prowess, without sacrificing on-road comfort.

And of course, no 4×4 treatment is complete without some wide fenders. The wheel arch extensions that Arctic Truck has fitted to the D-Max are some of the beefiest we have seen on a ute. They integrate neatly with the existing fenders, bridged by suitably matching Arctic side steps.

The Isuzu D-Max is powered by a 3.0-litre in-line four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine putting out 140kW at 3,600rpm, and 450Nm at 1,600-2,600rpm. It’s matched with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

While this would unlikely to be of interest to the typical Lexus ES buyer in Australia, things in Japan are slightly different.

Developed by Toyota Racing Development, or TRD exclusively for the model in Japan, the body kit goes a long way in adding a dose of aggression to the otherwise relatively plain ES.

The racy parts consist of a new front lip, extended side skirts and bespoke rear bumper with integrated rear diffuser. All are available in a painted finish or bare material finish.

There are also two different wheel designs to choose from, including 19-inch forged alloy with a dark grey finish and larger 20-inch forged rims.

According to TRD, these parts not only add to the sporty good looks but have bring improve aerodynamics efficiency, including the unique wing mirror caps.

That’s not all, the Toyota tuner has also made improvements to areas you can’t see via a range of underfloor braces that can be optionally added to improve the car’s agility.

Inside, the only token change is to the trim piece surrounding the power window controls.

In Australia, the ES starts from $62,525 for the ES 300h with a 131kW/221Nm 2.5-litre hybrid engine.

The BMW M4 may have the most controversial kidney grille ever, but it sure isn’t short on performance. Packing a 3.0-litre twin turbo six-cylinder in-line engine with up to 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque, the rear-wheel drive sports car can dash from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

Already equipped with an M body kit and widened fenders, the BMW M4 looks raw and imposing straight out of the factory. The only thing left to do, perhaps, is to throw in a set of lowering springs.

And that’s where suspension and chassis specialist H&R comes in. Specially tuned to work with the factory adaptive dampers, the springs lower the M4 by up to 30mm at both axles. The subtle drop is enough to set off a properly aggressive stance, eliminating any unsightly gap between the tyres and the wheel arches.

As the spring rates are the same as the factory specifications, the tuner says ride quality is not compromised while handling is improved and roll is reduced in corners. It’s also claimed that all suspension components are German made and have been TÜV tested and certified to guarantee durability and high performance.

H&R is also beefing up the M4 with a set of wheel spacers which push the wheels outwards by 11mm, ensuring they sit properly flush with the wheel fenders. Combined, the lowering springs and wheel spacers give the M4 a much more aggressive, hunkered down look, with the 20-inch M lightweight wheels now filling up the wheel arches nicely.

The sport springs for the BMW M4 costs 444 euros while the wheel spacers will set you back a further 94 euros.

The Toyota 86 has always been the darling of the tuning world, and the recently unveiled second-generation model looks set to continue that trend.

First to have a play with the rear-wheel drive sports car is none other than Toyota’s in-house tuning arm Gazoo Racing. Collaborating with Toyota’s motorsport arm Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Gazoo Racing is introducing a wide body Toyota 86, complete with track goodies.

The front bumper gains a splitter and side carnards, while the factory rear bumper has been ditched to make way for a completely new design that is beefier and fitted with a rear diffuser.

Widened fenders all around wrap upsized wheels measuring 19-inch, with chunkier side skirts adding to the 86’s aggressive stance. Topping off the package is a towering rear GT spoiler.

While it isn’t obvious if there have been any mechanical upgrades, one thing clearly visible are the quad exhaust tips, which should give performance a bump.

Jointly developed with Subaru, the Toyota 86 is powered a Subaru-sourced FA24 2.4-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine (that also powers the new Subaru BRZ) producing 170kW of power and 249Nm of torque. Both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R is already pretty well sorted straight out of the factory, but that did not stop chassis and suspension specialist H&R from sharpening it up even further.

On offer is a lowering sport springs and spacer package for the Volkswagen Mk8 Golf R. Compatible with the standard shock absorbers, the H&R springs lower the turbocharged all-wheel drive hot hatch by up to 25mm all around. According to the tuner, the lower ride height and slightly firmer springs improve handling and reduce roll in corners.

Handling aside, the lowering springs also give the Golf R a racier, hunkered down look thanks to the elimination of those unsightly wheel arch gaps.

Those who demand an even more aggressive stance can further opt for the H&R Track+ wheel spacers. Made of high-tensile aluminium, the spacers push the wheels out by 6mm, making them perfectly flush with the fenders.
The sport springs for the Volkswagen Golf R costs 327.25 euros while the wheel spacers will set you back a further 44.83 euros. All components are manufactured in the tuner’s factory in Germany.

The Mk8 Golf R is powered by a tweaked version of the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre ‘EA888’ turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 235kW of power and 420Nm of torque – an increase of 22kW/40Nm.

The Haldex-type all-wheel drive system now features R Performance Torque Vectoring that allows up to 100 per cent of the engine’s torque to be distributed between the front and rear axles, or between each individual rear wheels.
The Golf R is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds (DSG) before hitting a limited top speed of 250km/h.

Some like the restraint, sleeper styling of the Volkswagen Golf GTI but for us, it, and the 2021 Golf R, just look too tame and similar to the regular Golf range. Happily, Prior Design has come to the rescue!

As you can see from the renderings, it totally transforms the Golf GTI into a sexy, DTM racer-like beast.

Starting at the front, Prior Design has revised the front bumper with an elongated splitter to give the GTI better ground effect, but the stand out feature is certainly those amazingly flared front and rear wheel arches that completely change the hot hatch’s stance. They are further complemented by a set of new wheels (we are guessing 20-inches), lowered ride height and chunky side sills.

Around the back, there’s a new rear bumper to match those fat wheel arches, along with a new rear diffuser. Prior Design has also installed a more prominent and stylish roof spoiler to complete the racer look.

The tuner hasn’t announced the pricing or indeed when the kit will be put into production but it’s definitely one worth looking into if you want a more menacing look for your Golf GTI!

The BMW M4 Competition is arguably the most controversially designed M car ever. The enlarged BMW kidney grille is a constant talking point amongst both BMW fans and haters alike. But what happens if we set that aside and give the rest of the M4 some sizzling up?

That’s exactly what exotic wheel manufacturer Forgestar has done. This lime green BMW M4 Competition is a fine example of less is more. With just a change of footwear, this M4 Competition’s looks is transformed.

Rolling on a set of satin black Forgestar F14 wheels measuring 19 x 10 inches at the front and 20 x 11 inches in the rear, the M4 looks more racy than ever. The concave rims complement the coupe’s wheel arches perfectly, while the staggered fitment further add to its aggressiveness. With a lowering of the suspension, this M4 Competition’s hunkered down stance is simply unrivalled.

Inside, a roll cage has been added and the rear seats removed, further hinting that this is no ordinary M4.

The BMW M4 is powered by a formidable six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo in two states of tune depending on the transmission offering.

In a move that will please pure driving enthusiasts, the M4 continues to be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, which is unique in the segment. The manual M4 delivers a peak torque of 550Nm all the way from 2,650 to 6,130rpm. Its maximum output of 353kW is available at 6,250rpm. The rear-wheel drive coupe can dash from 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds.

The M4 Competition lifts power and torque levels to 375kW at 7200rpm and 650Nm from 2,750 to 5,500rpm. Featuring an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, the standard sprint time for the rear-wheel drive Competition model is just 3.9 seconds.
The M4 Competition will be joined by all-wheel drive variants in late 2021, marking the first time the BMW xDrive system is used in the M4.
